Steve, how did you get started in custom audio and video?
From a love of good music actually. I was a frustrated musician and played around with sound systems. When I started working for New England Music, I was thrilled to actually be paid to sell people good music.
How did Tucker and Tucker come into being?
After 15 years in stereo retail management for N.E. Music and Tweeter, I was Director of Training for ReSound, responsible for over 150 people. In the summer of '88, I took some time off and did a custom install for my doctor. That lead me to realize that there was a future in home theater and whole house A/V solutions. In fact, one of my first commercial jobs was for Tweeter, doing the audio for the new Cookin'.
Where has your business taken you?
Well, since 1989, we've been all over the country, but mostly in Maine. We've done a fair amount of commercial accounts from The Portland Regency and other Maine businesses to places like Frogeez in Las Vegas. I really enjoy the custom works we do for our residential customers, because it's so personal. It's helping them create a place to relax and enjoy music and video. In fact, 10 of our home projects have been featured in magazines like Maine Home + Design, Kitchen and Bath, DownEast, Design in New England, plus the Maine Sunday Telegram and Portland Press Herald.
What do you think you're most proud of over the past?
Like I said, it's the experience and pleasure of customers who truly appreciate the extra attention to detail and the satisfaction they get out of their systems. When someone says "Steve, thank you so much" that's what makes it all worthwhile for me at the end of the day.
